There are many unique dance forms associated with different cultures and popular in different regions of the world. Dances like Jazz and ballet are famous all over the world. Many people are not aware of a unique dance form called tap dance, which uses a peculiar form of shoes fitted with a metallic tap that gives a tapping sound on striking the ground as a kind of percussion. The rhythm generated by tapping the shoes on the floor makes the dance special and interesting. I heard about tap dance recently. This interesting dance form emerged from a kind of ancient Irish dance form during the 1800s.
Tap dancers or tappers, as they are commonly known, derive inspiration from anything like a rain drop dripping slowly from a roof to make their feet creatively tap the floor to match the rhythm of the sound. Tap dance was popular in America for nearly four centuries since the beginning of the twentieth century. Artists tried to revive the dance form during the seventies, but the advent of a new generation of choreographers with comparatively unrealized sensibilities associated with the rhythm of tap dance finally led to the decline of the dance form. The introduction of rock music in stereo sound systems made the audience lose interest in the rhythm of tap dance irrespective of its sweetness and softness to the ears. Even the strategy of tap dancers to fix microphones to their shoes to make the rhythmic sound more audible could not help retain its popularity.
Performing a tap dance is a funny way of doing an aerobic exercise to keep the body fit. It makes the body more flexible unlike sports that make one’s body strong and rigid. Tap dancing is the best way to burn extra calories from the body. Two hours of dancing will burn away nearly 630 calories of unwanted body fat. The difference between sports and tap dancing is that sports persons require coaching on a regular basis. But, tap dancers do not require a coach; instead, they invent new movements on their own every time they perform the dance form.
