Environmental Studies

The article “cropping Africa’s we Savannas would bring high Environmental Cost” by Princeton University environmental department tackles issues on rising population, food crisis, sustenance and global warming (Princeton University, March 16, 2015). The Savanna grassland in Africa is a vast land that can be used by human population to produce food for the world population and also grow plants utilized in the production of bio-energy. The only big handle that world will face in handling such big project is the titanic cost that will not measure up with the returns.
Despite the fact, that Africa wet savanna has the potential to increase world food production so as to satisfy the insatiable demand due to ever growing population; such action will impact more negatively than positively. When one look at the broad savanna in a wider spectrum, it is obvious that it accommodate not only humans but also wild birds and animals which are part of the world biodiversity (Princeton University, March 16, 2015). Converting such lands to farmland would thus impact negatively on Africa’s biodiversity.
Personally am a great admirer of the world beautiful biodiversity. Thus, the article is among the best environmental articles since it deals with issues policy makers mighty ignore yet their impact might be deleterious. In terms of ethics, wild animals have their right to the planet just like the humans thus thy must be taken into consideration before such projects are carried out. The solution to the looming world food crisis is to increase production through the use of biotechnology and engineering ideas which have worked in various countries like Netherlands (Princeton University, March 16, 2015).
