Analysis of Trash
A lot of information can be deciphered from the refuse discarded. With the presence of used baby napkins, it can be inferred that an infant is a part of the household. The presence of used reams of paper and used pens likely suggests the possibility of the presence of a student in the house. Considering the huge amount of vegetable waste, it would not be a wild guess that the family spends considerably on vegetables as compared to junk food. Since not much remains of non-vegetarian food were found other than bones of fish, it can be safely concluded that one or a few members of the family prefer fish over other types of food. It can also be arrived at that milk is an important constituent of the family diet. The carton of a latest model music player implies that a member of the family is a tech savvy music lover.
These seemingly simple information concluded from the trash, in fact, talks a lot about the socio economic class and members of the household. The household seems to be of an upper middle class considering the fact that it can afford a nutritious diet (fruits, vegetables and fish) on a daily basis and a new model music player. Talking about the number of family members, it can be ascertained that a minimum of five reside there. An infant, a student who believes in latest model gadgets, a young woman who uses fairness creams (possibly the infant’s mother), an adult man (from the body spray bottles and cigar pieces) and a diabetic elderly person (from the tablet covers and insulin syringes) are likely to reside in the household. Cooked food being thrown away suggests that the family is a well-to do family which reaffirms our previously drawn conclusion. It also suggests that a member occasionally skips food at home, may be due to other commitments. On the whole, the family seems to be an educated household which understands the importance of a healthy and wholesome diet. It can also be inferred that the household is not lavish as it preserves plastic containers and considers them waste, only when it is broken and cannot be used further.
So, from the above details, it can be concluded that the household constitutes of a minimum of five persons. It is an educated and a prudent household which does not believe in lavish spending. On the whole, the household seems to lead a very balanced and a comprehensive life.
