The workforce becomes more diverse due to the global expansion affecting the economy. Workforce diversity encompasses the differences between people involved in the organization (Greenberg, 2004). These variances include gender, age, personality, education, race, organizational function and thinking style. Since people tend to be unique in their own way, the variances are not limited to the aforementioned ones. In dealing with diversity, people tend to interact by considering first the factors such as how they perceive themselves and the others. In order to achieve effective managing of organization, the management must deal first with challenged due to diversity. These challenges usually involve change, adaptability, and, more importantly, communication.
World class organization follows these three steps in order to address diversity issues in the workplace. The management team uses the power of speech in order to convey these steps to the workforce. These steps involve diversity assessment, development of diversity plans and implementation of this plan in the workplace (Greenberg, 2004). It is important to consider employees thoughts, by encouraging them to share their opinions, in formulation and execution of the diversity plans. Through these beginning steps, diversity will be promoted as well as its benefit.
Communication can help in addressing adaptation and changes along the implementation of diversity plans. By facing this challenge in the midst of diversity in the workplace, it can help build the organizations competitiveness which will eventually lead to its success.
