How Does a Dynamic Reinterpretation Work?
In her article entitled Women Read the Romance: The Interaction of Text and Context, Janice Radway tells about the forces that stimulate progress or changes within a rhetorical text analysis and how romance can be a rhetorical avenue for women to psychologically carry themselves up to the level of men in a very patriarchal world that we live in, at least, within the context of imagination. Radway observes that while ideal romance allow women to feel like they are less likely subordinated by men by assuming roles that are respected and honoured by men, the most critical point of the rhetoric of reinterpretation of romantic texts may mean that reading experience can bring about adverse consequences such as when women may take the rhetorical imagination to real-life (Radway 66). This is a problem that may be addressed by the dynamic of reinterpretation. As suggested by Radway, the dynamic of reinterpretation exemplifies the mechanisms and processes involved in the construction of meaning for the reason that readers, particularly women readers, are well informed about the motives of the male protagonists rather than the heroines. So what does this tell us? The main rhetorical problem is that women tend to over-sensationalized their freedom to be on par with men in romantic texts but carry this imagination to real-life which can be psychologically debilitating. What the dynamic of reinterpretation do is to make the rhetorical notions of romantic texts closer to reality by rather maintaining the dominant force of men over women as by heroes over heroines.
