Social mobility refers to the change in social status of one person compared to other within the same community. This change is measured based on the economic status of a family or an individual. Social mobility in most cases is looked as movement from one social class to another. Generally, societies with matured democracy tend to have higher social mobility than those with less democratic space. Societies with traditional forms of government e.g. autocratic also tend to exhibit lower rates of social mobility.
