In the beginning of the 17th century, a group of Puritan that wanted to safe English language and heritage and find new lands with more resources, decided to set a trip to the New World abroad the Mayflower (Mayflower, 2015)The whole trip lasted more than 2 months and then they reached North America. It was named Plymouth. (Mayflower, 2015)
After months of working and building new homes, half of the Englishmen were dead due to the weather conditions and diseases. This civilization was not very happy to see pilgrims taking their lands. The war began. This part of history could be seen in a popular cartoon “Pocahontas”. (WELLS, 2015)
In 1621, in fall there was a fest which is now believed to be the basis of Thanksgiving Day. (Mayflower, 2015)After this fest the Englishmen spent their time building and making the new colony a robust economy, with the help of agriculture and trade. In that time more and more Europeans came to North America to begin new life. (LEMON, 2015)
The major battle between Great Britain’s colonies and Great Britain was called the American Revolution. (US History/American Revolution, 2012) It started in 1775 when 13 colonies decided that it is time for independence. Due to high taxes and constant control, colonies decided to do so. Great Britain had established a perfect war apparatus, Colonists had to develop everything, such as army, recruits, supplies, and a chain of command should be developed. Generally, the strategy of colonialists was to meet wherever they emerged.
In 1774 colonial representatives met to talk over their problems with the British government to draw up some papers. (War, 2015) However, when they decided to meet again the war had already broken out. Later Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were added to representatives and the creation of Continental Army, led by George Washington as the commander in chief was done. On July 4th, 1776, the delegates drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence. (HISTORY.com, 2015)
In fall 2004, after a presidential election in Ukraine one could see the Orange Revolution. Due to the ballot-rigging and adding almost 3 million votes to help the State’s candidate Yanukovych win the election, this revolution was started. (Foreignaffairs.com, 2015) After seeing that the numbers were changed, Yushchenko called citizens to join him at Maidan, Kyiv’s Independence Square, to express their outrage.
One can see the spreading of the word by two united groups Pora and Maidan. With the help of internet and later with the help of messaging people, they started informing citizens with this cheating. It is safe to say that the mass media also helped in sharing the information, citizens were encouraged to come out and protest. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2015) The goal of Orange Revolution was very simple, as the Yanukovych was a pro-Russian candidate and Yushchenko was pro-American, it was inappropriate that the first one would be a President of Ukraine. That is why, with the help of this revolution the President was changed. These protests were named the Orange Revolution and it lasted for more than a week. With the help of these messages, grumbler people took shifts in the Square, built a tent camp, and even slept there. Pora and Maidan group both tried not to change this protest into a violent revolution, as it easily could have become a violent one. The protest spread to other parts of Ukraine and after 2 weeks, Yushchenko won new elections.
