The relations between the U.S and the Egypt relations has become a strategy of bringing peace to Israel. As a result, it has enabled Israel and Egypt to coexist peacefully thereby promoting the social ties between them. Nevertheless, the Egyptians benefited greatly from the relationship due to the assistance given by the U.S. for instance; the U.S has helped in its developments and advancement in the military leading to more peace in the region (Lisa 201). For this reason, the peaceful nature has led to the upsurge of the economic growth in Egypt because the stability encourages the investors in the country. Thesis statement: the mutual benefits and perceptions led to the relations between the U.S and Egypt.
Nevertheless, for the formal relations started in the year 1922. Additionally, some common factors and goals triggered the strengthening of the relationship because both parties would benefit. For instance, both countries had the objective of; fighting terrorism, achieving regional peace, expanding the international commerce and, relations thereby increasing the local economic integration.
Conversely, the U.S and Egypt signed a peace treaty between 1979 and 2003, to help the Egyptians get fully military support, for example, the U.S government released $ 19 billion and $ 30 billion dollars. The U.S aimed towards strengthening Egyptians military and improving the economic status consecutively (William 284). For this reason, the Egyptians government became in a position to buy the sophisticated weapons and used them in fighting their enemies. Additionally, they also bought advanced weapons thereby having an added strategic advantage over the rivals.
Nevertheless, the U.S supported the Egyptians in military to have access to Middle East for the trade and economic benefits. Therefore, the U.S government used all the means available in order to access the Middle East. Nevertheless, the U.S government was also interested in the Middle East to enable them consistently control the resources. However, the U.S had self-interest in Persian Gulf energy and securing of the Suez Canal would enable the U.S advance its economic growth due to the oils in the above parts.
Moreover, the U.S and U.S worked closely to bring peace in the Middle line in East because the terrorists had affected the area greatly. As a result, it led to the decline in the economic growth in U.S because it became difficult to explore the oil resources. However, the Egyptians came in to mitigate the wars and relations with the Arab countries. It helped them establish ties with the U.S. However; the U.S had the advantage of using their technologically advanced weapons against the terrorists (Lisa 251). The U.S also had interests in the relations between the Arab-Israeli. Therefore, they required the Egyptian government to enforce peaceful relations for maximum exploitation of the resources in the counties by the U.S government.
Nevertheless, U.S was in the forefront in restoring peace and democracy in Egypt after her independence. Therefore, it helped reinforce the relations between the two states due to the political and the economic stability achieved by Egypt. As a result, U.S helped the Egyptians realize the benefits of enjoying the rights and freedoms of the citizens, and it helped in harmonizing the people leading to her growth. Therefore, Egypt opened the canal for the U.S when fighting the terrorists in the Arab countries.
However, both the U.S and the Egypt governments have strengthened their public and private sectors to strengthen both the economic and social relations (William 317). The issuance of the insurance package in Egypt has encouraged the investors in Egypt leading to an upsurge in the living standards of her citizenry. Additionally, the investors provided employment to the Egyptians, thereby strengthening the relations because it helped reduce the social evils in the country.
The U.S government has helped in the promotion of health services to the Egyptians. For this reason, they joined hands with the Egyptians government to help get health services to its citizenry. Therefore, the U.S government invested heavily in the health sector, for instance, in building up health facilities, and in the provision of the adequate medicines and machines. They also helped in the expansion of the education in the health service providers in Egypt, and it helped reduce the mortality rates. Additionally, the U.S government has helped Egypt in fighting polio by engaging in polio campaigns (Robert 126). As a result, it increases awareness of the disease prompting the parents to have their children vaccinated. For this reason, the U.S actions led to the improvement of their public image in Egypt.
Consequently, the U.S intensified its intelligence and knowledge to the Egyptians, making it possible for them to attack rivals. Additionally, they strengthened the military ties when they both came together to train the security forces in Iraq. For this reason, it shows that both nations shared a similar vision of intensifying intelligence and training in the countries for peace achievement and the stability of the countries.
Nonetheless, the differences between Egypt and U.S. have affected their relations. For instance, the U.S government accused the Egyptian government due to their disagreement concerning Israel. On the other hand, the Egyptian citizenry demonstrated the U.S’ influence in their nation and they claimed that it rendered them powerless in their country (Robert 312). For this reason, it led to an upsurge of antagonism among the Egyptians, and this affected the social ties between the two countries negatively. However, it resulted in the citizens from both countries opposing strongly the relationship.
Therefore, the relations between the U.S and Egypt enabled Egypt become the powerful nation in Africa. As a result, Egypt gained a lot of influence in Africa. It also enabled them become the neutral party in bringing peace in the Arab nations thereby eradicating the hostilities and terrorists in the nations. All these achievements put Egypt on the global map due to her influence in bringing peace in the warring Arab countries (William 109). Many countries established social ties with Egypt thereby improving the economic stability of the nation. Additionally, they won loyalty from the other countries, and it encouraged investors into the country thereby solidification of her economic powers.
Nevertheless, some of the Islamic cultures have portrayed backwardness in Egypt. Therefore, the U.S came to help eradicate some of the cultures that affect the people negatively. Islamic radicalization had led to a waste of many young people’s energies, when lost to it. As a result, the U.S asked for the help and cooperation from the humanitarian organizations, the government and the other concerned bodies to eradicate radicalization because it leads to encouragement of the terrorist activities in Egypt (Lisa, 348). Nonetheless, some of the cultures deserve protection, for instance, Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities and the USAID collaborated with the Conservation Project to help in the protection of the Egyptians rich cultures.
Nonetheless, the relations between the two countries helped Egypt gain a strategic advantage over its rivals. For instance, the Egyptians gained more control than Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. However, it was enabled by the support given by the U.S. in terms of the weapons and the attack tactics. Gaining more power than her rivals reinforced the relations between the U.S and Egypt. Additionally, it also helped the interrelations between them, and it brought a lot of cohesiveness among the citizenry. However, the military support by the U.S government brought an element of overreliance of the Egyptians, in that they believed that the U.S’ government was the only support thereby ignoring the other countries.
Consequently, the U.S relations with Egypt have led to brain drain in most of the African countries because many Africans perceive Egypt as the most superior country. As a result, some educated elites search for employment in Egypt, and it led to underdevelopment in the other African countries. Additionally, it also triggered enmity with the other African states because she seemed to incline to the west rather than to the African countries. Therefore, it affected the social ties, and this led to the discouragement of commerce in the countries.
However, under the Obama’s administration, Egypt has reduced its ties with the U.S due to its support in Iran concerning the nuclear desires. However, Egypt viewed as a betrayal leading to the constraints because the U.S government’s actions increased the Iranian influence. As a result, it rendered Egyptians powerless in the Arab countries due to the nuclear weapons advanced to Iran. The betrayal element intensified in Egyptians because empowering Iran by giving them the nuclear weapons deprived the Egyptians their role as the leader. However, U.S and Egypt could enhance their ties, but it depended on the dialogue between Iran and the U.S (William 298). However, it led to an upsurge of tension between Egypt and, U.S. As a result, it led relations with the U.S to the rocks and it loss of loyalty to themselves.
Moreover, the U.S’ intervention in the Muslim activities in Egypt has led to an upsurge in the political instability in Egypt. The Muslims form the opposition in Egypt, therefore, leading to its constant opposition to the government. For this reason, the political instability has increased hostility and deaths between the Christians and the Muslims. Additionally, it has slowed down the economic development in the country thereby affecting the people’s living standards. Consequently, some critics argue that the two countries needed to break the ties, for a peaceful coexistence between the Muslims and the Christians.
In summation, the relations between the U.S and Egypt contributed to economic growth and social ties between the two. As a result, they portrayed a good picture that countries should come together and work towards propelling the countries forward. Additionally, there was the need for mutual interdependence between them to avoid disagreements. It also eradicated the exploitation nature because both countries had to benefit (Robert 384). However, it is also evident that they based their ties on the self-interests, which led to weakening of the relationship. Each country made a move that would benefit the country without considering the other. Therefore, for mutual interdependence, there was the need for the countries to win a trust and deliberate on the issues affecting them by engaging in dialogues.
