Review of Pediatrics Initiative - Healthy People 2020

This presentation aspires in improving the health and well-being of mothers and infants and children in United States. Their well-being establishes the health of the next generation, and can help in determining future public health challenges for pediatrics, families, communities’ and the total health system . The objectives of this project cover various conditions, several health behaviors and indicators of health systems, which are affecting the wellness, quality and health of women and children. Pregnancy gives an opportunity to identify the accessible health risks in women, and helps in reducing health problems in infants and children. It will help in reducing infant mortality, morbidity, and health improvement in families by increasing access to quality care in preconception and inter-conception periods. Early detection in risk factors will decrease disability or death and help the children to reach their complete prospective .

Pediatrics implications

The implications cover various aspects such as decrease in infant morbidity and mortality rate, including mortality rate of infants with Down syndrome, reducing in low birth rates, less cesarean births, adequate prenatal and post partum care and also reduction in adolescent deaths. Increase in breast feeding, increasing lactation support programs in work places of mothers, provision for recommended care for lactating mothers and their babies . This also governs reduction in fetal alcohol syndrome, early diagnosis of birth disorders, and early interventions in these disabled children.

Action Plan

The focus of the action plan is on improving health literacy, by engaging organizations, experts, policy makers, society, mothers and children, and everybody in a multi-sector effort to improve health literacy. Everyone, especially children and the mothers have the right to health information by using various information technology platforms in the form of websites and internet . These health services are provided in an understandable, easy and beneficial way to the mothers and society, based on correct and actionable health information. However, to enhance the efficiency of the services, the need is to incorporate greater individual-oriented focus on the same.
