With the development of technology, there have been driverless cars which do not need to have drivers for them to move. It is a concept which is pushed and supported by Google. They have been able to develop cars which drive themselves. The passengers will have minimum controls that they can have to the car. Although the federal government has not yet developed laws and regulations that will be used in the management of the driverless cars, there are concerns on the way the driverless cars will operate. It will be important to understand how the cars will operate and how they will be able to enhance the development of the automobile technology. Individual states have been left with the development of their own laws and regulations on how the technologies will be operated. There are concerns on the development of artificial intelligence that will operate on automobiles. The main concern is the security of the cars. It will be hard to depend entirely on the operation of the logic in the car to have a safe ride. The way humans operate is different from the way robots operate. There is the reasoning aspect of the cars. The safety of a ride will sometimes depend on the logic and the reasoning of the driver (Francis 82).
There is also the issue of communication between the passenger and the car. It will be difficult to communicate with the car because the cars have been smart and will only take constructions from the people who operate (Luettel, Himmelsbach, and Wuensche 882). It is difficult to imagine how the car will be corrected if they make a mistake and it was cruising at high speeds. It will be hard to control the car and have it back on track at the speed that they are moving. The humans will be concerned about the safety of the car even for those who have no idea what the technology is all about. The human is trained to trust their fellow humans in any situation. It will be hard to have full dependence on the machines without understanding the logistics of the car.
There are some human-machine interactions that have not been fully solved. There are still some concerns about the validity of the logic and the times when the logic that has been integrated in the robots will have to change. These are the issues that will need to be solved before the driverless cars will be allowed to operate in the toads. It is important to understand the issues that surround the logic that has been used in the car (Porikli, Fatih, and Gool 18). Will it be possible to have changes in the places where the owner of the driverless car want to go? What if I want to change where I am going? How will this be communicated to the car? How will the owner make the car understand of the changes? How will this affect the stability of the car? What if the changes is drastic? Will the car be able to integrate the changes at the speed that has been needed? These are the issues that still linger with the use of the car. It has been stated that if there are changes on the road, like new traffic lights that was put, let us say overnight, the driverless car will not understand this addition. It will be difficult to control the cars in new environments. There are some assumptions which will affect the operations of the car and there is a need to ensure that the car will have the new integrations. The driverless cars will not be able to respond to traffic signs which have not been included in the maps. Unless there is a way in which the car will sense the new additions in the map. It is the only way in which the car will be able to integrate the changes that have been put in place (Riener 62).
Pedestrians will be identified as moving pixels because of the shadows. An issue of concern here is the identification of traffic police officers who might be waving to the car in order to stop the car. There will be concerns that will be required in order to have the cars stop in the process. It is a concern which has not been dealt with exhaustively by the manufacturers of the driverless cars. It will be important to understand the issues of concerns and how the cars will be able to be controlled. How will the cars be controlled by the traffic officers? These are the issues that need to be addressed with the development of the cars. These concerns will mean that the new way in which the traffic will be controlled will have to be formulated. It will mean that the driverless cars will have to have ways in which they will be able to get control from the officers.
Another concern is the safety of the cars to the general public. The cars can be used as lethal weapons. With the fact that the cars can be safely guided to new destinations where they can be used to shoot at people, it will be hard to assess the intention of the car. They will be guided and sent to the mission fields where the bad actors will accomplish the missions without physically being around the area of vicinity. It has been feared that criminals can use the cars to be self-explosive bombs. It is a loophole for the criminals to undertake their missions. Criminals will be able to control the cars from remote locations and be able to understand the new environments and undertake their missions without any obstacles. It is also possible to have the cars not respect the traffic lights and the rules which have been put on the road to control the flow of the cars. Although the driverless cars will open ways for mobility, they will open ways in which they will affect the security of the general public. Perhaps these are the areas which will need to be assessed and looked at in order to have better ways of managing the security of the general public. Also, the cameras are able to detect the color of the traffic lights. What is still an issue is if the sun is behind the light. There will be some distortions in the light. It will be hard to understand the light (Ros et al., 82). There is a need to have developments that will ensure that the light will be determined without being blinded by the light that has been presented in the case. There is also the issue of rains and heavy changes of weather. The environment in the United States is not the same as the climate in other countries. There will need it have enormous research being done in order to accommodate the different climates in the world. Even after these have been captured, there are changes that will occur with the climate and weather of a place. It will be hard to accommodate the changing climatic conditions. It will be hard to predict what will change in the new climatic conditions.
There is also the legal concern that will arise with the use of the driverless car. If the driverless car is involved in an accident, it will be hard and difficult to have someone specific to take the responsibility. In case of an accident, will the car driver, company, or software creator that will take the responsibility of the accident? These are the issues that will affect the driverless car and needs to be addressed. It is important to understand these issues and have ways in which the car will have the legal framework in which they will operate. The definition of driver negligence will change with the emergence of driverless cars. There will be a lot of debate on the driverless cars in many states because the federal government has not developed laws and legal framework that will help in the management of the driverless cars.
Another issue that will need to be considered is the infrastructure that will be used by the normal cars and that of the driverless cars. It will mean that there will be changes in road infrastructure so that it will enable the traffic controllers to have different parameters to check when assessing the safety of the cars. It will mean that there will be billions of dollars invested in the new infrastructure. The roads and the highways will have to accommodate both the driverless cars and the normal cars. It is one way in which the cars will be able to ensure that there is development of the new technology and accommodated in the road network infrastructure (Seshan, and Maitra 92).
There will also be the consideration of the mechanics that will work on the driverless cars. It will help in the enhancement of the technology. Without having mechanics that will repair the cars, it will be hard to see the cars developing and enhancing.
The success of the driverless car will depend on the way the issues will be solved. Communication between the human and the car will be the determining factor that will ensure that the success of the car will be realized. The control and the technological advancements that still need to be integrated in the cars will have to be assessed and reviewed as the technology is still being developed. It is the only way in which the cars will have success. The security concerns will have to be addressed. As artificial intelligence is being developed, there is a need to have these concerns put in place in order to have the driverless car technology adopted in the world. It will enable the innovators and the developers to look at the algorithms that have been used in the cars and have some changes. With the way the infrastructure and the traffic policy is at the moment, there is no way the new technology will be implemented.
