Good Critical Thinking About Rejecting Perception From Reality
Perception and reality are two different issues that cause contradiction to different individuals. Perception is what you see while reality is what it is. For example, in the case where a stick is placed in water, it may appear as if it bends. However, when one removes the same stick from the water, you notice that the stick has broken. The bending of the stick when placed in the water is brought about by the bending of light rays due to change in transmission media from the air to water. This is referred to as the refraction. This perception has been contradicting people for many years. Since water and air have different density, the speed at which light rays will penetrate through them will be different. This difference in density will create a perception of the human eye that the stick that has been placed in water is bending. To prove that bending of the stick in water is apperception and not a reality one need to remove the stick from the water and will find that there is no bending.
Another perception that may appear as reality is the different color in the light. This is usually a perception and not a reality because a light ray is of many different spectrums that contain different wavelength. These wavelengths of light travel at a different speed a light ray produces different colors when it passes through a media or an object. The object can be the human eye, glass, air water and others. For example, we only see different colors because the different light wavelengths are absorbed and reflected by the human eye they are made to look as if they are different. The ability to distinguish different colors is based on the different cells in the retina of the human eye
