The American with Disability Act
The American Disability Act (ADA) protects individual with disability from discrimination founded upon their disability. The protection is provided to them in a broad range of activities, including employment, public accommodation, and public service. The Americans with Disability Act guards against disability discrimination related to both public and private firms as well as employers in the United States. Moreover, the ADA forbids employers form discrimination against qualified individuals with disability, especially in relation to training, pay, promotions, firing, and hiring, application procedures and other privileges, and conditions and terms of employment (Henderson, 2001). The ADA rules apply to all levels of employee-employer relationships that include layoffs, benefits, leave, discipline, work assignment, and testing. Additionally, the ADA prohibits retaliation against individuals with disability.
The Americans with Disability Act is one of the most important steps in the struggle for liberating persons with disability. The ADA allows the disabled in America to support themselves with a regular salaries or wages and not help of friends and family or a government aid. This is very necessary and helpful for the disabled in America as it ensures that they are not dependent on an individual or group for their basic needs such as shelter, clothing, or food to survive (Henderson, 2001). Allowing the disabled to be independent on their own is one of the reasons why The Americans with Disability Act is a significant standard in the struggle to end discrimination against disabled people. Regardless of the belief that there will always be some prejudice and discrimination against all groups in society, it is a relief that one of those groups has a chance to prove and entrench in a demanding society.
