Plan for a research-based justification
In carrying out a research a research plan is important since it outlines the distinctive thoughts or ideas that are to be followed by the researchers in order to achieve their goal. Group skills for addictions counselors help the participants to gain information which improves their counseling group skills and abilities. A certain group for study has to be identified. In this case the population under study is college students. For this research college students’ population is appropriate since it comprises of the youth from diverse regions and religions and these are the most vulnerable population for chemical abuse.
The group will take a maximum of one month to complete their research with a credit period of fourteen hours. Sessions will be appropriately allocated of at least two to three hours with a maximum number of hours set per week. The whole session will take four sub-sessions through which evaluation will be done.
Chemical abuse is a very delicate topic to discuss especially with someone who is a victim. Open ended questionnaires are more appropriate since they aren’t restrictive. The respondent will choose on what answer to give without being restricted or forced and this makes them feel free and comfortable. Before proceeding with the research the group leader will have to be well informed about chemical abuse theoretically or practically. Research from various books can be of great help and also physical interaction. To ensure proper research set up every counseling group must convene pre-meetings. Through these meetings the members agree to be involved in the research, they get to know one another, their group leaders, their group members, their research specifics and they also get to be taught on the best approach.
The members are to be notified on the various rules and regulations of the program. These include punctuality; every member has to be punctual for the various sessions and if he misses he is marked absent. All members must be present at all sessions and if you miss one session you risk your grades and for two sessions you risk being dropped. Members have to be informed of their probable conduct while in the sessions. They have to be laid out rules and consequences of breaking the rules for them to study. A booklet given once they are accepted as members can be ideal.
Member’s progress towards goal will be assessed throughout the sessions and appraisal will be determined by evaluating member’s understanding, skills and their approach. This will be allied in line with the government set standards for addiction counselors. All these will be documented in the members file and assessed at the end of the specified term for their behaviors in and out of the sessions. The process of evaluation for graduation will be determined by the client’s behavior throughout the sessions. Their time management abilities, overall improvement and performance during sessions will be considered. A comparison with the set standards will be made and the outcome will determine the overall performance of the client thus graduation from the group or not.
