The video suggests that writing an essay begins with asking a questions, writing a thesis (clear and conscience), introduction (good and unambiguous), provision of proof (providing main reason and supporting ideas), and finally a conclusion that summarizes what one had written about in the essay. In the second reference, writing an essay involves setting out the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the major problem that one focuses on in the whole essay. Controlling ideas or support evidence is also critical in the process of writing a good essay. One may change the thesis statement after the problem is well defined in the process of collecting data or defining the parameters of the research.
The insights offered in both references are critical in writing a good essay. I have learned that one must have a clear problem stated in the thesis since it is the main idea that guides the whole research or essay. One must have enough supporting ideas of the thesis statements. To make the whole essay well organizes; there must be an introduction that ends with a thesis statement, the main body that comprises of the supporting evidence, and finally, a conclusion that summarizes the main points in the essay.
In the video, the fonts used are large to enhance visualization of the main ideas. The speaker speaks in controlled manner that gives the audience time to digest the idea or even take notes. On the other hand, the discussion board use smaller written font and utilize different figures of speech since many participants are involved. However, the video is basically very easy to understand since the presenter makes the whole process easy to understand. However, it seems less professional compared to the discussion board.
