The manager interviewed was Mr. Bill Branstetter of Abacus Solutions Group (ASG). He is the managing director of ASG since 2005. ASG is an information technology (IT) and professional services consulting firm based in San Antonio and Canon City. It was founded in 2005 as a service disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) which gives it certain access to government contracts such as that from the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Financially, ASG revenue is growing through the years. As of 2012, their annual revenue reached US$ 11 million. It is an astonishing value compared to its 2005 revenue of less than US$ 300 thousand. Its four core markets are (a) IT solutions, (b) 3D operations and training, (c) project management and advisory, and (d) medical services. Suppliers vary depending on the requirements of the contract. In terms of employees, around 50% of the employees have bachelor degrees, 10% have masters degrees or higher, and some 20% have associate degrees (ASG, 2014).
In terms of core businesses, their strongest area is in information technology. Their focus is on information assurance and security for the US Army, US Navy and US Air Force. One innovation ASG has taken pride is their tested cloud solutions which target not only the DoD, but other federal agencies as well. Another area is the 3D ops and training. They have successfully integrated voice, video, chat, multi-application, and document sharing for commercial, federal, and DoD missions. This is particularly useful to the new generation of soldiers in their dedicated service to the country. ASG also have a project management and advisory services. With their IT expertise, they have provided support and concrete solutions for various projects, mostly IT-related. Furthermore, they have expanded to providing medical services especially for medical missions. This is a newly-developed niche market.
Quality indicators tell useful information to the company. A study was conducted by Dunn and Bradsteed to 12 customers of ASG. The average score obtained was 94% based on certain areas. ASG excelled in most of these areas. They are reliable in the sense that they follow through commitment and deadlines. The final total cost is also lower than estimated due to the network of professionals under ASG. The company understands the needs of the business in terms of order accuracy, timeliness, and quality. Furthermore, the general feedback was that ASG was easy to work with, since their personnel have good attitude, courtesy and professionalism. Lastly, they have a responsive customer support and addresses problems immediately.
With these, ASG, as a company understands the value of professionalism in their dealings. They have taken advantage of their experience and culture of quality. This is in line with their vision of anticipating customer needs and providing exemplary service to its clients.
