How does playing classical music in the background during reading tests effect test scores
A learning environment requires to be free from noise or any kind of destruction that might affect student’s understanding of material that he or she is reading. Despite this, many of them would prefer to hear some soft music on the background as they study. Classic music is one kind of genre that is mostly preferred by the students when they are studying.
Any kind of noise during the study will affect the concentration of the student thus shifting his or her mind to the music. As much as student prefer playing classical music in the background when they are reading, it has an effect to their test score. When the classical music is playing in the background, the student is likely to shift his or her attention to the music that is playing and thus miss some important concepts that he or she is reading. This will make him or her to fail in the test when that particular concept is tested.
Procedure of experiment
Assuming that the two student have equal capability of studying and understanding the concept, let one of the student read for the test without playing the music.
Let the other student play the classic music on the background and study for the test.
After studying for the test, let all the two students be given the same test
Results and conclusion
The student who studied for the test without listening for the music will perform highly compared to the one who was studying while playing classic music on the background.
It can therefore be concluded that playing music on the background during reading test will affect scores.
