I was not always a good reader. In fact, I liked to move away from reading and writing. My initial school schedule offered different courses in math and science, and most of my work was in those subjects. It was the decade of the 1980s; I was eight or nine years old, when I was fascinated by the beautiful colors of the church. I liked those mouthwatering sweets and other eatables. It was at that time, when I first felt an interest in singing after listening to my Grandmother’s songs. I found that we all have an ear for music but lack eyes to see it; so I started reading about music during my fourth grade year. I found that learning to read and write the music was just like learning any other language. I joined music classes during my fifth grade year. During classes, I showed that I have all the abilities to go to shows with school musical groups. My Aunt Freda also gave me a music book after seeing my interest in music and singing. It was probably because of my interest in music that I was able to learn many important things quickly while reading the book on music. With the increase in my knowledge, I started understanding the significance of the musical components mentioned in the books. I felt good with those words and components. I came to know that musical notes consist of A-B-C-D-E-F-G. This is especially important when playing the piano, or when singing. A confident understanding of these notes can help in achieving good music. I was allowed to join the marching band of my high school in the 8th grade. I was also asked to demonstrate my knowledge of music during weddings and other such occasions. I was rewarded many times for this interest.
I knew that reading about someone’s life can also help in becoming an achiever in the field of that person. So, I read about different popular singers, and their struggle and popularity with the passage of time. Although, many of them became my inspiration, the work of John Lennon and Paul McCartney was of special interest to me. I also remembered reading the book “Moonwalker” by Michael Jackson.
Books told me that even a single piece of music can have an important impact on life. Different books revealed that music is a universal language. Everyone shows interest in music. They helped me understand that my singing would help in influencing other’s views, decisions, and choices in one way or the other. With more understanding, I started shaping my singing more carefully according to the directions in books. Reading made me think about music in a thankful way. Reading different books on music also inspired me to write notes about my experience with the music. Books taught me how to write different phases of going through my interest. Reading and writing about music has also motivated me to do something new. Playing an instrument or reading music showed me that I can expand my own horizons, and achieve new and higher targets.
