Second Industrial Revolution in mid-late 19th century and early 20th century did make great changes in many nations such as United States of America (USA). In this era, the widespread use of steel had been shown in railroads, bridges, and infrastructures. Petroleum was also introduced within this time. Chemicals were also introduced in many fields such as fertilizers in farms, cleaning agents at home, and chemicals in working places. Finally, electricity was the best invention discovered during this time. Because of electricity, more things are being discovered and invented. Telegraphy, radio and telephone soon follow. Therefore, this was the birth of Science Innovation – Technologies.
USA did gain many benefits during the Second Industrial Revolution. Railroads were the veins of trades and transportation from state to state. This helped the economy of USA back then. Telephones and telegraphy helped many people to communicate one with another. It is not that difficult to communicate back then. Radio helped many people to know more about their surrounding and even outside their state. This was also a way for the leaders to communicate to their people. Politicians were able to enforce the more part of innovation in centering their funds to more science research activities like today.
Before the Second Industrial Revolution, Americans did start to discover the west part of USA. They often call the West part as Wild West because the East part of USA was more developed than the west part of it. There are many factors why many citizens started to travel to the west. First, many were persecuted because of their religion; this gave the Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) to travel to the West and became the pioneers of Utah. It is difficult for them to socialize because of persecution of many citizens against them. Second, oil, gold and silver were in abundance in the west mainly in California. These resources gave USA more funds in the government. Third, leaders were assigned to lead the western states by the higher authorities to utilize and discover more resources. Western states were then founded because of organization and building counties and cities. During the Second Industrial Revolution which gave the western states to have communication with the eastern states by railroads, telegraphy, and telephones.
Discovering and widening territories gave benefits to the Americans but not to American Indians. Many of them were at war with the people who colonized the western states because they fought for their territories. Many of American Indians were driven out in the USA and went to Mexico. Some of them just went into a treaty to protect their last inheritance from their forefathers and to stay within their territories.
