Authoritarianism involves a situation whereby the system of Government unique and does not allow any victimizations of the citizen by either internal or external force. It is a form of Government that believes in the protection of their citizens, and such Government will dispose of off all their resources for the purpose of protecting the people they serve. The image of the cartoon appeared first on May 9, 1754, issue of Franklin's Pennsylvania Gazette. In the early 1770s, France, and Great Britain have been in arguments, and they were discontented with their share in the American land. Franklin noticed the Fragmented nature of the American Colonies appeared subdivided. Hence, did not join their forces to fight against oppression and the increasing threat by the France and expansion in the North America. France had slowly expanded their landholding in America and seen as a lack of authoritarianism by the US Government. He noted in the Cartoon and the column that America had a great force only if they joined together against the outsiders who were threatening to cause oppression to the Americans.
The snake drew in fragments that resembled the map, most likely representing the fragments that made the entire American colony fragments. In the cartoon, there exist many basics characteristics of a map. The cartoon is referred conveniently as Cartographic caricature; the map is usually a symbol representing the American colonies with identifiable features that are their locations and coastlines. The Government must institute independent law without relying on the legislature and other arms of the Government. The government should not receive any intimidation, but they should use the Authority accorded to it t ensure the safety and freedom of their citizens. The cartoon won a lot of publicity and featured in all the major newspapers in the America. Despite the map outlined in the cartoon losing its demeanor after a while the message of the cartoon has remained to date. Some of the modern cartoonists have applied the Franklin concept to draw unique cartoons that seek to elucidate the same message to people.
The cartoon has successfully been used to show the concept of Authoritarianism in politics and Government. Authoritarianism colonies subcategorized as personalist or populist. In personalist authoritarianism in the Government is characterized by arbitrary rule and authority is exercised. This mode of Government was most evident in post-colonial Africa post-colonial Africa where the Leaders ascended to power through a coalition that ruled the lower-class groups. However, the unity of the minor groups is necessary and essential to help the Government to fight against their oppression either from internal forces or external forces. The cartoon had for a long time been used to symbolize the colonial freedom through the revolutionary war conducted by the Americans. It was done to detach the country from the Great Britain and their colonial rules that they had instituted among the citizens. Great Britain had self-interests; they did not have any intention to help the American Citizens from the administrative problems affecting them all along. The revolutionary war led by the Americans securing their independence, making the thirteen colonies presented in the fragmented snake was now independent of the Great Britain. To stamp their authority over any local or international laws, the Government created a Betsy Ross Flag that has applied up to date.
In conclusion, the cartoon by Franklin Benjamin, which is the best-known cartoon in the history of America, achieved its goal. The primary objective of the cartoon was showing how unity and insightful Government can relieve individuals from the oppressive hands of colonizers or laws drawn by different people. Additionally, he also runs an editorial article along the cartoon examining the impact of disunity or a reckless Government.
