Gender issues are issues that people have discussed for a very long time. There are many cases in the world that show the atrocities that women go through and how the society takes very little attention to understanding this case. Many theorists and scholars have presented various perspectives on violence against women in the society. While many base their analysis on cultural practices many base their analysis on violence against women during the war. Jenifer Turpin in his article “Many faces of women confronting war” analyzes the various perspectives to look at women participation in war. While men engage in the active role of fighting women, engage in other activities that revolve around the war. War has a lot of impact on women. While others suffer as casualties, refugees, victims of rape and sexual abuse, loss of family others suffer from loss of livelihood and loved ones. Nonetheless women also respond to war in various ways. Others join the war as military personnel, military production workers, and many other responsibilities. The sentiments of women mistreatment during wars echo around the world even to the Asian continent. A good example is the Japan and Korean Empire during the post-war period. Hyun S Kim in his article explains the various encounters of women violence during the Japanese and the Korean Empire. The paper analyzes ways in which women have emerged from the age of oppression to the age of enlightenment. Lucinda Marshals in the article “the connection between Militarism and Violence against women” also gives an insight into the effects of war on women. The paper argues that peace can only be real if the menace of violence against women is dealt with. It is evident that cases of rape and violence are reminiscing about the war. Rhoda Copelon in the article “Surfacing Gender” also provides an intriguing perspective on genders violence. The article postulates that many times violence against women during the war is taken just as a result of the war. This is a problem that did not just start today but has been there for a very long time. No one even tribunal have ever taken or sanctioned violence against women. It emerges clearly that this article has varying perspective on gender violence. Important to mention is that all these perspective generate a better understanding of the violence on women during the war. Nevertheless, there are a number of diversions in term of the perspectives that these articles have. While the other articles mentioned focus on the plight of women during war others, focus on the issues of gender and the development of gender in other communities.
Jenifer Turpin is one of the articles that have interested me. In this article, she gives a deep and profound analysis of women participation in war. Not only does the order focus on the atrocities that women go through during the war. Rather the paper shows that women are also participants of the war. While others participate in war directly as military, there are others that are involved in providing food and other supplements to the men when they fight. Despite their active participation, it is clear that women go through various atrocities during the war. These problems include sexual abuse, torture, and even dying. In other case women even lose their entire family during the conflicts. It is clear then that women go through a lot of things during and after the war. It can be argued that the most people that suffer from war are the women. Their vulnerability to most of the abuse, rape makes them just one of the easiest target for the perpetrators of the atrocities. The paper does not only analyze the challenges that women face during ear, but women also react to this problem. There are various reactions that women show during the war; others opt to join the war, sending support the men, morning, and resisting. The most striking part of this paper is that it delves into the various discussions of people perspectives and understanding of women during the war. It shows how there is a shift in how war is analyzed so that it can transform from simply looking at war but focusing on the gender aspects that are associated with war.
