Good Example Of Fantastic Mr. Fox Essay

The beauty of Fantastic Mr. Fox is that it teaches children philosophy at a young age without it being obvious. I never expected this book by Roald Dahl to contain philosophical questions pertaining to Existence. The tale of Mr. Fox revolves around the attempt to feed his family and their main source of food is from nasty and mean individuals. However, Mr. Fox appears to have changed after giving up his life as a fantastic thief to working for a newspaper business. His new job puts food in their table but he yearns for the satisfaction and thrill he is receiving from stealing their meals. Thus, his existential crisis comes.
A lot of people experience existential crisis rooted from their career choices. Like Mr. Fox, he questions what really defines him. He sacrificed his stealing ways in order to have a more stable source of income but it makes him feel incomplete. The crisis that he was feeling resulted to family drama because he keeps on looking for something. It was difficult for him to choose because going back to his old ways was risky because the farmers declared that they will literally move mountains just to personally Mr. Fox and his family killed. But the method of stealing gives him satisfaction. The thrill brought on by breaking-in to steal chicken makes him feel more alive and more himself. The important lesson that people can pick from this movie (and novel) is that choices in life at times create existential crisis because there are a lot of things that must be considered before making one. There are always sacrifices to be made and what ifs to be asked in the end.
