Alienation is a state of being whereby human life and involvement gets dominated by the forces of their inventions. As technological innovations progress, so is the magnitude of dominance in human life. Man has been in a constant quest to innovate new ideas that seemingly make work easier and efficient, but the underlying factor is that man’s strides are turning out to be his undoing in the economic scene. Modern sociology conforms to Marx’s idea that people become detached from their personal creativity as a result of being alienated from the innovations they create. Different forms of alienation exist including alienation from self, from activity of work, from product, and from family and colleagues.
Capitalism effects led to the exploitation of workers, and it is responsible for creating a sense of isolation in the lives of the people. Workers have lost control they have over their life because control over labor is no longer within their reach. People have become detached from their creativity and sense of humanity lacking the spiritual energy to work.
When the workers are producing goods for someone else other than themselves, sometimes not knowing the products’ purpose, the products become alien hence there is no emotional attachment to the product created.
Alienation from activity of work occurs when workers understand that they produce not for themselves or a group they know but rather an unfamiliar market, therefore, get alienated from the process they undertake to make the goods. When working for others, the input is not natural. When workers produce for someone else, they view Labor as purely a means of survival. They monotonously repeat and so their value in the process is reduced. Similarly, the tools and procedures involved do not belong to them or serve their needs but those of others elsewhere hence further alienation from the process.
Alienation can lead to society breakdown as household and work environments are treated distinctively and separately. When workers are forced to follow schedules and to produce products for other people, they develop a superior inclination towards work activities at the expense of their own. Therefore becoming alienated to all human social needs even at the workplace.
