Summary of Evaluation Methods

The definition of curricula development is an idea of organized preparation of what should be taught to students at a given time and in a given year. National League of Nursing (2012) I was influenced by this definition and the discussions and teachings from course 614. Nursing practice and education is evolving with ever expanding technology and in clinical practice. Nursing education should be in the forefront of improving their student knowledge and education as well as in practice.
Based on the curricula development course 606 Curriculum Development course I decided to change the format of assessments based on my students learning needs and the ongoing demand for improvement. In view of these facts I have decided to change my curriculum to suit the needs of my students’ student outcomes. Teachers use curricula development to more accurately assess students and develop strategies to be used in covering material in a course. Some methods that can be used are rubrics, worksheets, teachers’ worksheets and the teaching methodologies, which have proven effective in delivering knowledge.

FORMATIVE/ SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

Formative evaluation monitors learning progress during instruction. It is a diagnostic evaluation that identifies student strength and weakness to provide feedback. Allows the nurse educator to revise instructional materials clarify and update measurement instrument during course instruction not used for assigning grades, (McDonald, 2014).
Summative evaluation is used to describe the quality of student; achievement after an instructional process is completed. That focuses in on determining whether learning has occurred and outcome desired has been achieved. The main purpose is to assign a course grade.

Example:

Formative Assessment: I will give a10 test multiple choice question one-minute papers, Clickers, assess lectures and review, on understanding the foundations of nursing care practice as it relates to current trends in mental health. Return answers and discuss and give student feedbacks
,
The purpose of this assignment is to show how would align your teaching. Learning and evaluation strategies for one student outcome
The student outcome which flows from the program ouctcome has to be appropriate for learners and it needs to be measurable. So we use Bloom’s taxonomy verbs that is measurable

Example:

Summative Assessment: I will assign 15minute test comprised of multiple choice questions on topics covered in class to show understanding of the foundations of nursing care practice as it relates to current trends in mental health. From clickers lectures and test review assess if course outcomes has been achieved.

Evaluate the use of safe and effective information technologies to support decision in psychiatric nursing care.

Example:
Formative Assessment: I will divide the class in groups and assign a group leader to discuss the use of safe and effective information technology that will support decisions on nursing care.

Example:

Summative Assessments: The team leaders will gather five questions from each group. The questions will be used to review the topics discussed. The teacher will also use one minute paper tests to assess lectures, review, discuss and get feedback from the class and assign a grade.
Example:
Formative Assessment: I will engage students by watching YouTube video on community-based resource programs, health promotions, reflection journals, which incorporates writings on personal reaction about what they watched.
Example:
Summative Assessments: I will give feedbacks on expectation of student reflections to increase interest on assignments and group discussions. I will also use evidenced based clinical practices in nursing to teach about cultural and community based resources on health education. Students will respond using reflections from group discussions.

Describe nursing roles, family support, and multidisciplinary team interventions and to analyze risk PTSD/Suicide based on nursing standards.

Example:
Summative Assessments: I will enquire from student about their knowledge and experience in the internet activities just in time learning to clarify the importance of teamwork interpersonal relationship psychiatric nurse and acumen on student learning outcomes I will use questions and answers.

Example:
Summative Assessments: I will assign students to small groups and they will use a computer module and written assignment to discuss genetics. They will also discuss legal issues on ECT treatment and regulations. I will assess students’ understanding or knowledge with a quiz to evaluate and promote learning. Using computer and lab simulations to assess skills and procedures for ECT treatment.

Discuss role of caregivers in coordination of care to achieve optimal health.

Example:
Formative Assessment: I will divide student in small groups to role of caregiver, hands out lectures and case study to articulate care plan and questions on topics.
Example:

Practice and examine the administration of medication. Discuss issues related to non-compliance and nursing practice.
Example:
Formative Assessment: I will use power point to demonstrate skills in medication administration and highlights about compliances with emphasis on major issues affecting mental health. Working in groups using simulation to practice medication administration and note taking.
Example:
Summative Assessments: Students in small groups will create Power point presentation and simulation to practice and ask general questions and review Math in NCLEX format followed by a 15 question test.

Analyze Health policies health promotions, nursing care and manage care.
